Universal-Motor-Gerät .... hinter dieser Bezeichnung verbirgt sich das wohl vielseitigste Fahrzeug der Welt.

Seit nunmehr fast 60 Jahren ist der Unimog im Einsatz. Im August des Jahres 1948 begann Boehringer mit dem Serienbau, ehe Daimler-Benz Gaggenau das komplette Unimog-Paket mit Produktion, Vertrieb und allen Patenten übernahm.

Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg ursprünglich für die Landwirtschaft konzipiert, zeigt er heute in zahlreichen Einsatzbereichen seine Stärke. Wo andere Geräte streiken, fängt der Unimog erst an: Ob in der Wüste als Krankentransporter, im tiefen Schnee als Räum- und Streufahrzeug, auf dem Acker beim Pflügen, Säen, Düngen oder Spritzen, der Unimog kennt nur selten eine Grenze.

Der Unimog hatte zwei große Verkaufsschlager: den U 411 mit über 40.000 produzierten Einheiten und den U 406 mit 37.000 Einheiten. Der Unimog 411 wurde von 1956 bis 1974 produziert und mitunter als Schneefräse konzipiert. Sein Leistungsbereich liegt bei 25 bis 36 PS. Die Besonderheit dieses Fahrzeugs ist das „Froschaugen-Fahrerhaus“. Diesen Namen verdankt es seinem runden Design und den froschaugenähnlich hervorstehenden Scheinwerfern. Der Unimog 406 mit einer Leistung von 65 PS und später 110 PS ist in Verbindung mit seinen Zusatzgeräten universell einsetzbar.

Dr. Manfred Florus, ein Mann der ersten Unimog-Stunde, und Dr. Klaus Herrmann, Leiter des Deutschen Landwirtschaftsmuseums und Traktor-Experte, liefern wertvolle Beiträge zur Geschichte der Unimog-Legende.

Der Film „Unimog – Die Legende lebt - Teil 1: Einsatz in Eis und Schnee“ zeigt spektakuläre Aufnahmen verschiedener Unimog-Modelle im Einsatz sowie wertvolles historisches Filmmaterial. Dabei kommen sowohl Oldtimer als auch aktuelle Fahrzeuge zum Einsatz.
